Implementation Support & Follow-up Unit Issues 2018 Annual Report

Implementation Support & Follow-up Unit (ISFU) issued its 2018 annual report which is the second since its establishment as per the Royal Decree No 50/2016. The report includes detailed information about more than 120 initiatives and projects, which ISFU works on following up and implementing in cooperation with governmental entities and business owners. It is considered a major part of ISFU working methodology as it includes important information about the key performance indicators (KPIs). The report also includes the main efforts exerted by the public and private institutions as well as ISFU in following up the implementation of initiatives and projects within the government’s plan to enhance the economic diversification, new labs, and a number of strategic projects of which ISFU is studying the feasibility. In addition, the report includes samples of the support process which ISFU provides, and the specific roles and responsibilities relevant to the initiatives and projects.

Asserting ISFU keenness to enhance and develop its mechanisms, ISFU has assigned Deloitte to review its work and the efforts exerted through following up the KPIs and the dashboards. The company’s team worked continuously to ensure accurate follow-up and continuous assessment and analysis.

At the end of December 2017, ISFU conducted a press gathering on the updates of implementing the initiatives and projects of the economic diversification, with the presence of media specialists and journalists, as well as representatives from the relevant implementing institutions. During the press gathering, the main updates on the initiatives and projects were reviewed.

To ensure a wider social engagement in the projects and initiatives, ISFU organized the Independent Advisory Review (IAR) which was attended by a group of experts from inside and outside the Sultanate. These experts include CEOs, senior management officials in the private sector, and academics. The sector teams presented the main updates about more than 100 projects and initiatives in different sectors, with the presence of their excellencies and undersecretaries of the relevant ministries. The experts provided their feedback on all projects and initiatives. They also provided their recommendations which were included in the annual report. These recommendations will be built upon in developing the performance and management of the projects.

The IAR is held annually within the Unit’s efforts to strengthen the partnership with the community, especially with experts and CEOs in the private sector through hosting selected groups from different sectors.

Later this year, ISFU will publish a handbook on the Information and Communication Technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution Lab, which was conducted in the period from February to March this year. Moreover, 2019 annual report will include detailed information and plans resulted from Information and Communication Technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution Lab.

ISFU works on providing support to different entities through the phase of implementing projects and initiatives. These projects and initiatives were improved to contribute in building a sustainable economy, according to a clear governance structure and specific KPIs. Also, these initiatives and projects are derived from a number of programs, including: The National Program for Enhancing Economic Diversification “Tanfeedh”, which is a governmental initiative that aims to link the strategies specified for eight promising sectors, in addition to other projects and initiatives recommended by relevant entities to push the economy forward. These programs include business environment and finance program and strategic projects program. Furthermore, ISFU provides the support to facilitate implementation procedures of more than 120 projects and initiatives through analyzing data, tackling challenges, approving a follow-up system and an effective monitoring to ensure a successful implementation of the initiatives and projects within specific timelines and clear KPIs.
